The open source idea was a mistake

So, half a year has passed since I decided to take a bite that was too big to chew. I learned the hard way that trying to convert a big project to a new coding standard is way harder than just building something from scratch.

If there's any AS3 wizards out there, which is a rarity these days (it's basically a dialect of javascript), perhaps I could enlist some community volunteer work to take over the conversion efforts.

Alternatively, I'm strongly consider starting up a new project called TerraRaptor's Animations Platform... TRAP! This would be a new flash platform built on more professional and modern coding techniques, and I would then just port the animations over to it. But it probably would lack some of the fancy interface stuff (like the breeder selection screen and the pokedex). But I dunno how important any of that stuff is to people. Ehhh so basically just a "more porn, less bullshit" gallery.

It'd also have non-pokemon stuff that I may be interested in animating some day. Thoughts?

On an unrelated sidenote, I'd like to plug the newly created Feral Pokemon Porn discord channel. It's not mine, but you can find me there :)

  2. I had the feeling you trying to make this game open source had something to do with the drought of content these last months.

Well, good to know you're okay! And that you're looking for other alternatives.

  3. I like the pokedex! But it probably wouldn't be too hard to port over "later" if things were kept modular enough or the code at least wasn't a spaghetti of cause/effect.

  4. Congrats on coming back!

While I have nothing against TRAP, I do still enjoy the breeder selection screen, pokemon, and modding.
I would say it would be best to first finish up the planned stuff for Off-White (Ninetails, Delicatty, Umbreon, etc) then start up TRAP, import whatever ya can from Off-White, and do whatever else you want with it. That feels like a win-win scenario to me.

    1. Aggreable, I just hope Terra will just pace himself a little, though things like artist-block bites...

    2. I'm working with another coder now who has begun looking into assisting with the code conversions we we can move this project along.

  10. I've always knew terra was alive, and that he/she was working on this. Knowing what's going on, struggling with this recoding, all I've got to say is:

"It's understandable that it's some things seems easy, but later realize that its hard. It's fine, we all experience that eventually, so it's ok if it takes awhile to work on the update to off white and to work on other stuff (well I'm ok with it anyway). Expand your horizon if you gotta, we can wait, because some of us cant do the stuff you can do terra."

BTW, good to here from ya

  15. I thing mostly people are waiting for new updates. If you'll start something new so we will wait even longer :/ Acctualy I thing I shouldn't wait for updates. Pokemon Off-White is boring now :/

  16. How are things coming along? Should we be expecting an update sometime soon, or are things not yet close to any kind of fruition?
I'm fine with waiting, but I'd like to know how often I should keep checking back. I don't need anything definite, because I know deadlines can be pressuring, just a vague idea.

Besides that, it sounds like you've got a tough bit of work on your hands at the moment, all I can say is you have done and are doing great work, and I hope you're not having too much trouble. :3

    1. Soon, no. As I'm working with another programmer now, I'm a bit more foggy on the time schedule vs working solo. There's a bit of a learning curve in acclimating to the code.
